Dallas Days---A Luncheon and Fabric Presentation

Today we had a whirlwind day in Dallas. While we were working on various client needs, one of the primary reasons we went today instead of our usual Wednesday jaunt was due to a luncheon and fabric presentation at Culp Associates.

Culp is one of our favorite fabric/furniture showrooms and we are in there almost every week.

Today they were presenting a fabric line that is new to their showroom called Ankasa.

They are a bespoke fabric line out of Bombay India, and their offices are headquartered in New York City.

Ankasa is owned by husband and wife team, Sachin And Babi Ahluwalia. Sachin was our presenter of this fabulous fabric line and it was wonderful listening to his experiences in the textile business and seeing their beautiful line.

Ankasa is a line of embroideries and they are shown mostly on linen and silk grounds, although they are completely custom.

Sachin and Babi got their start with fashion powerhouse, Oscar de la Renta, and have gone on to supply embroideries for big names like Manolo Blahnik, Fendi, Lela Rose and Carolina Herrera---to name a few.

Their line of embroidery for home is absolutely amazing. Almost everything is done by hand and the craftsmanship is impeccable.

A detail shot of one of the fabrics.

After he showcased larger samples, he showed us some custom embroidery and bead work samples in a binder that had been applied in both interior design and fashion applications.

The man in the foreground is Joseph Minton, who I wrote about as one of my designer inspirations last week. It was lovely to see and chat with him at the luncheon.

All of the samples of the fabrics used for fashion were absolutely fabulous!

This one was for Carolina Herrera---it's all feathers!

This one was for Lela Rose.

This rose was for application on upholstered walls, each petal was individually hand embroidered and then pieced together.

This raised bead work was done for a Lalique showroom.

Thank you again to Culp Associates for the invitation to this wonderful presentation.
And thank you to Sachin, who made the trip to Dallas from New York---he was telling us that he was with a bunch of Dallas people from Neiman Marcus the night before at a dinner party in New York!

Last night we had Southwest chicken from Central Market and a spinach salad with corn, tomatoes and sliced almonds.

This song from the James Bond soundtrack is a favorite---The fabric presentation was so intimate today, it seemed to be the perfect fit for today's blog.
